The 74th Independence Day was marked as a red-letter day in DPS Numaligarh in view of the Corona Virus pandemic witnessing a totally innovative celebration. While following the COVID-19 protocol, the Senior Wing and surroundings were cordoned off, allowing only the teaching fraternity’s entry. Despite the limitations in the context of the unprecedented times, everyone was united under one flag making the day a festive one in the school premises. The programme commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by our respected Principal, Mr. U.C. Harbola . A thoughtful speech was delivered by the Principal highlighting the key areas. Talking about the celebration this year, he said, “The world is passing through a difficult phase wherein the whole system is under lockdown. Mankind is not superior to Nature and we cannot overshadow Nature. The lockdown has taught mankind that we need to work more on further scientific development .There is no word ‘impossible’ if one is physically, mentally, emotionally strong. He completely dedicated his speech to all the great leaders, front line heroes who are working day and night in spite of all the apprehensions for a noble cause. He focused on how doctors are ‘saving the world and teachers shaping the world’, standing up and working together. Finally, as a closing remark he stated, “One day schools will reopen and everyone will cherish the daily routine as before with our children.”
A moving rendition titled ‘Hind Desh Ke Niwasi’ was presented by the Music Department and staff. The pandemic has pushed the students this year to participate through virtual medium. Different online programmes like Inter House Music Competition, Yoga Demonstration and Art Competition cum Exhibition were organized for the students to ensure that large congregation is avoided and technology is used in the best possible manner befitting the occasion. Students were divided according to their four houses and different online tools were used to facilitate smooth participation. Students presented a medley of patriotic songs, yoga asanas and channeled their creativity by participating in the various competitions. The key event was the Art Competition cum Exhibition wherein the students displayed their paintings virtually in the public platform.
Although students were physically absent, everyone was united in spirit to mark the day with great fervour and zeal. The programme concluded with a light refreshment to commemorate the joyous occasion.
